Paris Summer Olympics 2024: 3 Prince George's Athletes Qualify So Far
Juliette Whittaker, 20, will compete in track. Jahmal Harvey, 21, will box. Kevin Durant, 35, will be playing basketball in the Olympics.
PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTY, MD — Three athletes from Prince George's County have qualified for the Paris Summer Olympic Games as Team USA continues to take shape.
More than 10,500 athletes from around the world will compete in the Paris Summer Olympic Games, officially the Games of the XXXIII Olympiad, between the opening ceremony on July 26 and the closing ceremony on Aug 11.
Included among the 32 sports are gymnastics, swimming, diving, track and field, archery, basketball, beach volleyball, boxing, golf, tennis and wrestling.

One new sport — breaking, described by the Olympics as a “young, acrobatic and urban sport” with American roots — will be added this year.
Back for a second time are three sports that debuted in the Tokyo Summer 2020 Olympics — sport climbing, skateboarding and surfing.

The athletes who have qualified from Prince George's County are so far:
Juliette Whittaker, 20, of Laurel. She attended Stanford University will be competing in track.
Career highlights:
- 2023 - NCAA indoor distance medley relay champion
- 2023- Pac-12 800m champion
Jahmal Harvey, 21, of Oxon Hill. He grew up playing football and was introduced to boxing by his football coach; he will be competing in boxing at the Olympics. He qualified for the Olympic Games Paris 2024 by winning gold at the Pan American Games Santiago 2023.

Kevin Durant, 35, of Laurel. He attended the University of Texas and will be competing in basketball. Durant has played on 12 U.S. basketball teams. He has compiled a 46-3 overall record and won four gold medals in FIBA events. He ranks among the all-time career Team USA statistical leaders.

NBC and its affiliated channels again have exclusive U.S. broadcasting rights. The network has said it will provide at least nine hours of daytime coverage during the Paris Games, including live broadcasts of favorite event finals. The NBC streaming service Peacock will provide coverage of every sport and event. The full broadcast and streaming schedules haven’t been announced yet.
