Repairs Needed For Now Closed Pedestrian Bridge Damaged By Truck Hauling Oversized Load
A pedestrian bridge in Bowie has closed after a truck hauling an oversized load damaged the structure, which now needs repairs.

BOWIE, MD — The pedestrian bridge spanning US 50 (John Hanson Highway) near MD 197 (Collington Road) in Bowie has been closed after a semi carrying an oversized load, an excavator, hit it Monday night.
The bridge is safe for vehicles to travel under but will require several structural repairs, the state transportation department stated. The bridge will be closed to pedestrians until repairs are complete. The emergency repairs are expected to take several weeks, weather permitting. Work will require road closures and will be performed primarily during overnight hours when traffic volumes are lower, officials stated.
