Charges Pending In Fatal Collision Involving Person Crossing I-495

Charges are pending in Monday morning's collision involving a vehicle on I-495 and a person attempting to cross the road on foot.

COLLEGE PARK, MD — Maryland State Police is investigating a fatal crash involving a person who was trying to cross the lanes of inner loop I-495 on foot when it was hit by a vehicle.

Around 3:12 a.m. Monday, troopers from the Maryland State Police College Park Barrack were called to the area of the inner loop of I-495 south of US Route 1 in College Park for a report of a crash. The investigation indicated that a Honda Civic was parked on the left shoulder of outer loop I-495 when the driver left the vehicle and attempted to cross the lanes of inner loop I-495 on foot. The driver was then hit by a Toyota that was passing by, according to the Maryland State Police.

The person was pronounced dead at the scene and has not yet been identified, the MSP reported. The road was closed for more than four hours and the investigating continues. Charges are pending, the Maryland State Police said.
