PGPD K-9 Dies After Retiring, Surrounded By Family And K-9 Friends
A Prince George's Police K-9 has died after retiring last year. K-9 Officer Troy was 12.5 years old and passed away surrounded by family.

PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTY, MD — Recently retired K-9 Officer Troy who was with the Prince George's County Police Department's Special Operations Division has passed away.
K9 Officer Troy worked with both Cpl. Matteson and Cpl. McMillan, serving as a patrol, drug detection and EST canine. Throughout his career, Troy successfully located several dangerous suspects and recovered large amounts of illegal narcotics. He provided patrol assistance at Northwest Stadium, the National Harbor and various events throughout the county. Cpl. Matteson and K-9 Officer Troy also competed in several “Iron Dog” competitions and usually finished in first or second place, according to the police department.
K9 Officer Troy retired from service in 2024. At the time of his death, K-9 Officer Troy was 12.5 years old and in his retirement enjoyed being home with Cpl. Matteson, his family and other K-9s friends Brix and Beau-Dacious.
