PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTY, MD — Prince George's County Police have arrested one of the FBI's 10 Most Wanted Fugitives, police say. He may be a suspect in a murder that happened in D.C. this past week as well, according to authorities.

Lamont Stephenson, 43, is on the FBI's 10 Most Wanted Fugitives list from a murder in 2014.

He is accused of killing a woman and her dog in their apartment in Newark, New Jersey, on Oct. 17, 2014, and was charged with homicide, according to the FBI.

The murder victim was his fiancee, according to WJLA.

Authorities believe he fled New Jersey to avoid going to trial and in September 2018, Stephenson was charged with unlawful flight to avoid prosecution.

The discovery of the missing fugitive in Maryland came when the Prince George's County Police Department responded to a report of a suspicious person in a rental truck around 2 a.m. on Thursday, March 7.

The vehicle was parked outside a business in the 7900 block of Annapolis Road in Lanham that was closed, police said.

When officers talked with the man in the truck and checked to see if he had any warrants out for his arrest, police said Stephenson told them he was wanted in New Jersey for murder and that he had also committed a crime in the District of Columbia on Wednesday night.

Stephenson is a suspect in the murder of a woman and her cat in D.C. on Wednesday, WJLA reports.

Authorities said they checked Stephenson for weapons and recovered one.
