STAFFORD COUNTY, VA -- Prince George's County police are now in charge of a homicide investigation that started with the discovery of a body in Stafford County, Va.

A Stafford County Sheriff's deputy spotted the remains of a murder victim in a remote grassy area at around 5 a.m. on March 9, according to a report from the Prince George's County Police Department.

Police identified the victim as 16-year-old Jacson Chicas of Falls Church, Va.

During the course of the investigation, investigators determined he was killed inside a home in the 7000 block of Varnum Street in Landover Hills, and his remains were taken to Stafford County, the report states.

"The Prince George’s County Police Department is actively investigating this case," it continues. "Preliminarily, detectives do not believe this was a random crime. Additional details will be released when available."
