Prince George's County Schools Change Schedule For Jan. 21

Prince George's County Public Schools have changed the schedule for Tuesday, Jan. 21. Here's the latest.

BOWIE, MD — After the weekend snow and frigid temperatures that followed, all Prince George's County Public Schools will operate on a two-hour delay Tuesday, Jan. 21, due to forecasted temperatures and icy conditions.

The district is under a Code Orange: Schools and offices will open with a two-hour delay. Emergency personnel must report to work on time and are not eligible for liberal leave.

  • All athletic games and facility use are canceled.
  • Extracurricular activities and practices are allowed until 6 p.m.; however, no bus transportation will be provided.
  • Due to low temperatures, all school activities will take place indoors.
  • There will be no work-study transportation. (Those students should not report to school.)
  • There will be no half-day Early Childhood Center (ECC), half-day Special Education Programs, or half-day PreK.
  • Vendor Managed Child Care Programs (VMCCP) will open 2 hours late.
  • Any other school program requiring transportation prior to 12 noon will NOT have transportation, including Howard B. Owens Science Center,JA Finance Park, and William S. Schmidt Center (Camp Schmidt)
  • All field trips will be canceled.
  • Food Services will offer breakfast.

So far this school year, PGCPS has canceled school for four days due to inclement weather. Those four days will be made up as follows, the school district told Patch:

  • Feb. 14 - make-up day 1: originally scheduled as a professional day for teachers, this day was identified in the school calendar as a potential make-up day and will now be an instructional day with schools open for students.
  • June 16-18 - make-up days 2-4: These three make-up days are built into the 2024-2025 school calendar at the end of the school year.
