Ramp Resurfacing Resumes at Route 50, Route 301 in Bowie

The Maryland State Highway Association put a temporary halt on the project last weekend for the Labor Day holiday.

Resurfacing of the ramps at the Route 50 and Route 301 interchanges in Bowie will resume Saturday after the work was put on a temporary hiatus in advance of expected traffic over the Labor Day Holiday.

The ramps from northbound Route 301 to eastbound Route 50, and the ramp from westbound Route 50 to southbound Route 301 will be closed at 6 a.m. on Saturday. The ramp from southbound Route 301 to eastbound Route 50 will be closed as of 7 a.m. Sunday.

All of the ramps will be reopened by 5 a.m. Monday in time for rush hour traffic, according to the Maryland State Highway Association.

Route 197 is recommended as an alternate route to Route 50.

SHA has been working on this $1.8 million project for most of the summer. It involves applying “whitetopping,” a bonded concrete, sustainable overlay,to the ramps. The special concrete improves breaking and makes for a smoother ride, according to SHA.

More than 100,000 cars make use of the Rt.50/Rt. 301 interchange everyday, according to SHA.
