Rewards Of Up To $35K Offered For Info On Death Of 8-Year-Old
Peyton Evans was shot and killed while he was inside a Landover residence playing video games, an initial investigation has found.
LANDOVER, MD — Officials are offering up to $35,000 to anyone with information that leads to an arrest in the case of Peyton "PJ" Evans, an 8-year-old who was shot and killed in Landover on Aug. 24.
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) Baltimore Field Division is offering a $10,000 reward, in addition to the maximum of $25,000 that the Prince George's County Police Department is offering, bringing the total possible money to $35,000.

On Aug. 24, PGPD officers responded to reports of a shooting in the 1600 block of Brightseat Road, the ATF Baltimore Division said in a news release. When they arrived, they discovered Evans suffering from a gunshot wound.

He was transported to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead, the news release said.

An initial investigation found that a white sedan pulled into a parking lot outside of a residence where a group of adults were gathered. A suspect began shooting, and Peyton was shot while he was inside the home playing a video game.
The suspect vehicle fled the scene in an unknown direction after the shooting, the news release said.

"We offer our condolences to Peyton’s family for their tremendous loss," ATF Baltimore Special Agent in Charge Timothy Jones said in a statement. "Peyton should have been able to spend the evening enjoying being a kid – playing video games after football practice, having dinner with his family, and getting ready to return to school soon. But instead, someone stole all of that without a second thought."
