Silver Diner Opens At National Harbor With Flexitarian Menu, Special Events

PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTY, MD — Silver Diner opened its 21st restaurant at National Harbor with its flexitarian menu that offers vegan, vegetarian and gluten-free options in addition to diner classics.

“Something for everyone,” said executive chef and co-founder Ype Von Hengst about the menu.

Von Hengst was responsible for incorporating the farm-to-table concept at the diner years ago and still sources from farms, including farms in Prince George’s County. He regularly updates the menu, tests it with customers and listens and responds to their feedback.

The 7,132 square foot location at 108 Waterfront Street offers an outdoor patio that seats 70, another area with 25 seats and sliding glass that converts the indoors to outdoors and a stand-alone bar—Bar Silver. In all, the restaurant has the capacity to seat 228 diners.

“I am so proud of this location. This is the most innovative diner design we’ve built to date. I believe that residents and visitors to National Harbor will enjoy the spectacular atmosphere combined with our unique menu and our friendly hospitality," said Robert Giaimo, president, CEO and co-founder of Silver Diner. "This is the most architecturally innovative of all Silver Diner’s with sliding doors that open to the outside to create great indoor/outdoor space, a large patio, lots of indoor seating and areas that can be closed off for private parties and events. Silver Diner also hosts regular “meet the chef” nights, special celebrity bartender nights and there will be Music on the Patio events along with Pups on the Patio this fall, Giaimo told Patch.
