Fight, Talk Of Weapon Prompt Lockdown At PGC High School Wednesday

A weapon spotted during a fight Wednesday at High Point HS in Beltsville prompted a schoolwide lockdown. Police never found a weapon.

BELTSVILLE, MD — High Point High School in Beltsville was placed on lockdown Wednesday at 12:36 p.m. as a precautionary measure after officials were told there was a weapon on campus.

Prince George's County police officers arrived at the school and scoured the property searching for such a weapon, but nothing was found, the police department said.

A fight at the school caused officers to be called to campus shortly after 12:30 p.m., WUSAsaid. The fight involved multiple students, but no injuries or gunshots were reported.

There also was a video circulating on social media regarding the fight that happened in a temporary classroom area and that's when a weapon reportedly was shown, according to the school district.

"No students or staff members were harmed during this incident and instruction continued while on lockdown. Due to the time required to secure the school and complete the search, dismissal was delayed by approximately 30 minutes," according to the PGCPS.
