Weather Decision Made By Prince George's Schools For Friday
Prince George's County Public Schools leaders have made a decision about school for Friday due to forecasted weather.
PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTY, MD — Students and staff initially had a two-hour late start on Friday, Dec. 5, due to forecasted weather, which was then changed to a cancellation of school, Prince George's school officials announced Thursday.
The PGCPS weather team reassessed conditions at 5:30 a.m. Friday and switched to the closure.
Prince George's County Public Schools initially issued a Code Orange, meaning schools and offices both would open two hours later. Emergency personnel had to report to work on time. Then they issued a Code Yellow where only emergency personnel still were to report for work.

According to the National Weather Service, a period of light snow is possible Friday morning across the Baltimore and Washington, D.C. metro areas, with up to an inch of snow accumulation on untreated roadways. If the snow does materialize during the Friday morning rush hour, many roads could quickly turn icy, leading to dangerous traveling conditions, multiple accidents and extensive delays, forecasters warned. In addition, light snow or freezing drizzle accumulations may also impact the evening commute as the storm system is slow to depart late Friday afternoon and evening.
