What Would You Build in Bowie?

Bowie, MD - Earlier this week, Bowie Patch asked our Facebook readers what they would build or fix in town if they were given $1 million.

Readers from across the area responded with answers varying from new playgrounds, renovated high schools and improved hospitals.

Also early this week, U.S. News and World Report released its list of the Top 10 Children’s Hospitals Across the Country. The hospitals were ranked in terms of “clinical outcomes,” “efficient coordination of care,” and “care-related resources.”

The publication periodically releases lists regarding the best schools in the country as well as most livable cities. Many of the things that make a town or city ‘livable’ are resources and public spaces i.e. good schools, roads, parks, libraries, etc. Not surprisingly, these were many of the things readers said they would build or fix in their town if granted $1 million to do so.

Here’s what your neighbors said they would build in Bowie:

• "I would fix Racetrack Road. It is an absolute mess with potholes and has been this way for years now. Not sure what the city is waiting for!"
• "Bowie Race Track. Design the area into something that could benefit the community and keep part of the race track history."
• "I'd go nuts with sidewalks so we can all walk in safety and enjoy all the trees planted."
• "The high school!"
• "Drug dependency."
• "Fixing and labeling bike/walking paths. Also may be nice to have of them lit to make safer too."
• "I'd put it towards a gym at Kenilworth Elementary."
• "A nice indoor swimming facility."
• "I'd plant trees everywhere! On every lawn bordering a street. On every patch of grass along a street. I'd make Bowie a TREE city, full of shady streets for strolling and bike-riding, and lessening the need for air conditioning."
• "Bring back Angelina's and Mr. Chicken."
