Work To Resurface Crain Highway Near Bowie To Start After July 4: SHA

BOWIE, MD — A $4.1 million project to resurface parts of U.S. 301/Crain Highway near Bowie will begin after the Fourth of July holiday, the Maryland State Highway Administration said.

The work zone will run from MD 214 (Central Avenue) to just south of Excalibur Road in the Bowie area of Prince George’s County. Weather permitting, the project is expected to be complete in summer 2024.

In addition to pavement milling and resurfacing, work includes:

• upgrading existing traffic barrier and end treatments.
• installing pavement markings.
• stabilizing drainage systems.
• upgrading ramps to meet Americans with Disability Act standards.

• cleaning drainage inlets and pipes.
• replacing curb and gutter.
• improving bicycle accommodations (signing and pavement markings).

During the work, crews will close the shoulder and one lane in each direction on U.S. 301 from the MD 214 bridge to south of Excalibur Road, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Mondays through Fridays. Additional lane and shoulder closures may be required overnights, 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. Sundays through Thursdays.

Contractor Allan Myers of Fallston will perform the work.

With summer weather here, drivers are urged to remain vigilant for pedestrians, bicyclists and motorcyclists. Remember that motorcycles can be hidden from view in vehicle blind spots.
