Suspect Arrested For Shooting, Assault Of 2 UMd. Students: Police

A man has been arrested in connection to a shooting and assault​ that injured two University of Maryland students Saturday.

COLLEGE PARK, MD — A man has been arrested in connection to a shooting and assault that injured two University of Maryland students Saturday, police said.

Jenare Marriott, 26, of no fixed address is charged with attempted murder, robbery and assault, police said. Police believe the two students got into an argument with Marriott during a drug transaction. The argument escalated into the shooting, police said.

Police responded to the shooting in the 7500 block of Rhode Island Ave. at about 8:20 p.m. Saturday and located the two injured students on the scene.

The first victim was taken to the hospital for a gunshot wound. His injuries appear to be non-life threatening, police said. The second victim was assaulted and brought to the hospital to be treated for non-life threatening injuries.

Police believe one of the students was also robbed. The students fled the area following the shooting, police said. Marriott is in custody of the Department of Corrections.
