Update: Man Killed In Hit-And-Run On 1-495 Inner Loop
Four lanes of the Inner Loop of the Beltway were closed Saturday as Maryland State Police investigated a fatal hit-and-run.
UPDATE (4:00 p.m.): Maryland State Police believe the car that struck and killed a man Saturday morning on the Inner Loop of the Beltway was a silver 2018 or 2019 Nissan Altima, according to a police report. Based on debris collected at the scene of the incident, troopers say the car likely has extensive damage that could involve the bumper, hood, headlight, fender and mirror along the passenger side of the car. MSP also say the man was struck sometime on Saturday, Feb. 29, between 3-5:30 a.m.
COLLEGE PARK, MD — Maryland State Police are investigating a fatal hit-and-run accident involving a pedestrian that occurred Saturday morning on Interstate 495 in Prince George's County, according to a police release.
On Saturday, Feb. 29, around 5:30 a.m., MSP troopers from the College Park Barracks received to a call from a motorist who said a body was lying in the gore area between the Inner Loop of Interstate 495 and the northbound ramp of Interstate 95. Arriving on the scene, troopers found the victim, whom authorities identified as an African American man. Emergency personnel pronounced the victim dead on the scene, according to police.

Investigating the scene, troopers determined the man was on foot when he was struck by an unknown vehicle. Debris found at the scene suggested the vehicle may have been silver. Troopers searched the area along I-95, I-495 and Route 50, in the hopes of finding the suspected vehicle or a vehicle that may have belonged to the victim. Neither were found.
Personnel from the Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration closed four lanes of the Inner Loop as troopers conducted their investigation. By 9:15 a.m., two lanes had been reopened.

Anyone with information about this incident, including the identity of the victim or the suspected driver and vehicle involved in the hit-and-run, is asked to call the College Park Barracks immediately at 301-345-3101. Callers may remain anonymous.
