Fight In Vehicle Leads To Crash, 1 Fatality On Route 50

Maryland State Police are investigating a fatal single-vehicle crash that started with a fight inside a car traveling eastbound on Route 50.

COLLEGE PARK, MD — Maryland State Police are investigating a fatal, single-vehicle crash that occurred Thursday evening in the College Park area, according to a police release.

Around 5 p.m., MSP troopers responded to the report of a crash on eastbound Route 50 east of Route 410 in College Park. Following a preliminary investigation, troopers determined Davon Robinson, 22, of New Carrollton, was driving a 2007 Ford Crown Victoria on the roadway when he became involved in a physical altercation with a female passenger.

According to police, Robinson lost control of the vehicle during the altercation. The car crashed into a sign support pole, trapping him in the vehicle. He was pronounced dead on the scene. The passenger was able to extricate herself from the vehicle and was taken to University of Maryland Prince George’s Hospital Center to be treated for her injuries. Due to the crash, Route 50 East was temporarily closed.
