Got Clutter? Public Works Can Help
Public Works will help you discard your junk. The cleaning part is up to you.

Editor's Note: Below is a (slightly modified) article we ran in October. The dates and times have changed but the details remain the same. Happy cleaning!
As winter (finally) gives way to spring, now might be an excellent time for a bit of seasonal cleaning. College Park residents wishing to organize can gather up their clutter – be it freshly raked leaves or an aging TV set – and bring it to Public Works any Saturday in April for their semi- annual spring opening.
Residents can bring as much as they can transport – as long as it's not hazardous, said City Manager Joe Nagro. For example, he said, Public Works will not accept roofing shingles or paints. Air conditioners, heat pumps, refrigerators and freezers may incur a disposal fee. Tires will incur a disposal fee of $4.00 each.

Have some stuff you just can't bear to see tossed in a landfill? American Rescue Workers will be on hand to take discarded household items like clothing, books, kitchen utensils, toys, bed linens, and anything else that remains functional.
Community Forklift, a sort of construction-oriented thrift store, will accept building materials in reasonably good condition – no scraps, said Nagro. However, lumber, cabinets, doors and the like are more than welcome.

Finally, paper shredding will be available for anyone looking to destroy some documents, be it tax returns or cancelled checks. Residents can simply hand the paperwork to the workers, and watch it go through the shredder themselves.
Hours of operation are from 7:30 a.m. to 12 p.m.
While loading up your junk, don't forget to grab you driver's license or a piece of mail – this service is open to residents of College Park only, and Public Works requires proof.
Public Works Spring Opening will be held on April 2, 9, 16 and 23 from 7:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. Public Works is located behind Davis Hall in College Park, at 9219 51st Avenue.
