A Prince George's County Man Faces Murder Charges In His Mother's Death: Police

A 30-year-old Prince George's County man faces several charges including murder in the death of his mother, according to police.

PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTY, MD — A 30-year-old College Park man has been charged with the murder of his mother, 61-year-old Marlene Sloley. They lived together in the apartment where the crime occurred.

On March 23 at approximately 11 a.m., officers conducted a welfare check at an apartment located in the 9300 block of Cherry Hill Road. They found Sloley unresponsive with trauma. She was pronounced dead on the scene.

A police investigation shows the suspect, Junior Bernard, Jr., fatally assaulted his mother during an argument and then he took off. Officers found him at a relative's home in Landover.

Bernard Jr. has been charged with first- and second-degree murder and related charges. He's being held without bond.
