Name Of Fatal Hit-and-Run Victim Released By PG County Police

Prince George's County Police released the name of a Washington, D.C., man who was killed last Saturday on the Inner Loop of the Beltway.

COLLEGE PARK, MD — Prince George's County Police released the name of the victim Tuesday, in a fatal hit-and-run that took place early Saturday morning on the Inner Loop of the Beltway, according to a release.

Crime scene technicians and latent print examiners from the Maryland State Police Forensic Sciences Division, along with the help of the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, positively identified Henry L. Washington, 60, of Washington, D.C., as the pedestrian killed in the Feb. 29 hit-and-run incident.

On Saturday, Feb. 29, around 5:30 a.m., MSP troopers from the College Park Barracks received to a call from a motorist who said a body was lying in the gore area between the Inner Loop of Interstate 495 and the northbound ramp of Interstate 95. Arriving on the scene, troopers found the victim. Emergency personnel pronounced Washington dead on the scene, according to police.

Investigating the scene, troopers determined the Washington was on foot when he was struck by an unknown vehicle.

MPD investigators believe the car that struck and killed Washington was a silver 2018 or 2019 Nissan Altima, according to a police report. Based on debris collected at the scene of the incident, troopers say the car likely has extensive damage that could involve the bumper, hood, headlight, fender and mirror along the passenger side of the car. MSP also say the man was struck sometime on Saturday, Feb. 29, between 3-5:30 a.m.

Anyone with information about this incident, including the identity of the suspected driver and vehicle involved in the hit-and-run, is asked to call the College Park Barracks immediately at 301-345-3101. Callers may remain anonymous.
