1. Maryland Public Universities see drop in international student enrollment (americanbazaaronline.com) — International enrollment at the University of Maryland in College Park has dropped by nearly 300 students in a year, the steepest decline among Maryland’s public universities. Officials link the trend to visa uncertainty and stricter U.S. immigration policies, which are pushing more students to consider countries like Canada and the UK instead. The shift could affect campus diversity, research programs, and the local economy around College Park.

2. Budget deficit, energy and tax issues loom over MD economy (thedailyrecord.com) — Maryland’s shaky budget outlook and high taxes could shape everything from state services to business growth that ultimately affects College Park residents. Economic experts highlight the University of Maryland in College Park as a key engine for innovation, pointing to quantum computing firm IonQ as proof of the city’s talent pipeline. Still, they warn that tax policy, tariffs, and a growing deficit may slow future opportunities.

3. How bomb cyclones form and create dangerous conditions (pbs.org) — A National Weather Service meteorologist based in College Park helps explain how so‑called “bomb cyclones” rapidly intensify and produce dangerous winds, heavy snow, and power‑cutting conditions. The piece breaks down the science of bombogenesis, where and when these storms usually form, and why they’re most common in colder seasons across northern parts of North America.

4. Woman Rams Car Into State Patrol Vehicle During Multi-County Chase (patch.com) — A late-night multi-county police chase that began in Virginia involved Maryland State Police based out of the College Park barrack before ending in a crash in Howard County. A 24-year-old Elkridge woman was arrested after allegedly ramming a Virginia State Police cruiser, injuring a trooper who has since been released from the hospital. She now faces assault, reckless driving, and multiple traffic-related charges.
