Pedestrian Killed In Capital Beltway Crash: Police

A Silver Spring man died after a truck struck him on the Inner Loop of the Capital Beltway in Prince George's County.

COLLEGE PARK, MD — Police are investigating a fatal pedestrian collision that left a Silver Spring man dead on I-495 in College Park.

The accident occurred in the area of eastbound I-495/Inner Loop-Washington Beltway east of New Hampshire Avenue at about 3:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Preliminary investigation reveals a Tennessee man was driving a truck tractor on eastbound I-495. The driver then hit the pedestrian with the trailer portion of the truck tractor, police said.

The pedestrian was identified as Mark Armstrong, 66, Silver Spring. Police are investigating why Armstrong was walking in the roadway. He succumbed to his injuries following the collision, police said.

There was no indication of impairment on the driver at the time of this investigation, police said.
