UPDATE: Police Identify Pilot Killed in PG County Plane Crash

Maryland State Police identified a Bronx, New York man as the only fatality in Sunday's plane crash in Prince George's County.

NEW CARROLLTON, MD -- On Monday morning, Maryland State Police identified the pilot who was killed in a small plane crash that took place Sunday afternoon, Dec. 29, in the New Carrollton area of Prince George's County. The pilot was identified as Gordon Allen, 61, of Bronx, New York, according to a police release.

Troopers from the College Park Barrack responded around 3:10 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 29, to the 6300 block of Chestnut Avenue in New Carrollton for the report of a single-engine plane crash. The initial investigation revealed that the plane had departed minutes prior to the crash from the College Park Airport. After crashing into the carport of a single-family home, the plane then struck a vehicle. Both the plane and vehicle caught fire.

The home was not occupied at the time of the crash, according to the release. Power was lost in at least 18 area homes due to the crash.

The Prince George’s County Fire/EMS Department responded to the scene to extinguish the fire caused by the crash, which remains under investigation. Both the National Transportation Safety Board and the Federal Aviation Administration were notified. The New Carrollton Police assisted at the scene and the Prince George's County Police Department is aiding in the investigation.
