Police Report 3 Hate Bias Incidents In 2 Weeks At University Of Maryland

Offensive drawings and language were found written in black marker in the men's restroom at a campus cafeteria on three different occasions.

COLLEGE PARK, MD — The University of Maryland Police are investigating three separate hate bias incidents where offensive phrases and drawings were found inside the men's restroom at a campus cafeteria.

The incidents occurred within two weeks of each other, police said. The first case happened on Sept. 28, when police responded to the Ellicott Dining Hall for offensive drawings and language written in black marker found on the wall inside the men's restroom.

On Oct. 7, police were called for an "offensive phrase followed by a swastika" found inside the same bathroom. On Oct. 9, officers found offensive writing in the restroom.

Police are offering a $2,000 reward to anyone that has information that leads to the successful identification of the responsible suspect(s). Anyone with information is asked to contact UMPD at 301-405-3555 or email investigations@umpd.umd.edu.
