Student Attacked With Baseball Bat On University Of Maryland Campus: Police

Two University of Maryland students were attacked on campus by a man with a baseball bat Friday night, campus police said.

COLLEGE PARK, MD — Two University of Maryland students were attacked on campus by a man with a baseball bat Friday night, University police said.

Police were called to the Stamp Student Union area of campus for an assault at about 10:56 p.m. The two male students told officers they were walking in the area when they got into a verbal altercation with people inside of a passing car.

A male passenger got out of the car and began to follow the two students, police said. The suspect then went back to the car and retrieved a baseball bat. The suspect exchanged words with the students and struck one of them, before he fled in the car towards Baltimore Avenue, police said.

The student was taken to a local hospital and has since been released, police said. Police have identified two suspects involved in the incident, and they have no affiliation with the University. The suspects were issued a denial of access for the campus. Charges will be filed, police said.
