UMd. Student Shot, Another Assaulted In College Park

A University of Maryland student was shot and another was assaulted a block away from campus Friday night, police said.

COLLEGE PARK, MD — A University of Maryland student was shot and another was assaulted just a block from campus Saturday night, police said.

Police responded to the shooting in the 7500 block of Rhode Island Ave. at about 8:20 p.m. Saturday. Arriving officers located two injured men on the scene.

The first victim was taken to the hospital for a gunshot wound. His injuries appear to be non-life threatening, police said. The second victim was assaulted and brought to the hospital to be treated for non-life threatening injuries.

Detectives are working to establish suspect(s) and motive in this case. Police do not believe this was a random shooting.
