VIDEO: Volunteers Get Down in the Dirt for Earth Day

Local high school student Caitlyn Hutchison spearheaded an effort to fix up two rain gardens in honor of Earth Day.

On Saturday, a group of College Park's heartiest residents overlooked Mother Nature's early morning temperature tantrum, braving the cold and wet to celebrate Earth Day at Duvall Field.

Volunteers worked until the afternoon restoring the area's rain gardens, the more environmentally-friendly answer to storm drains. Rain gardens allow rainwater runoff to be absorbed back into the earth, keeping it from potentially polluting nearby water sources.

Check out the video above to see how a group of volunteers resuscitated College Park's rain gardens.
