On Sunday, Sept. 7, Club Goodwill members will receive double points, the first 20 shoppers in line will again earn gift cards and another golden chest prize hunt will be held.

“We are excited to open our doors to shoppers and donors in Howard County,” said Goodwill Industries of the Chesapeake CEO Lisa Rusyniak. “This is more than just a retail store — it’s a long-term investment in the community. Every donation and every purchase fuels our mission to provide job training and career opportunities to those who need it most.”

Nearly two dozen employees will staff the new store, including a few inmates from Dorsey Run Correctional Facility.

"They’re on a program where they can come here and work all day and it takes them back to the prison. And then upon release, we’ll probably end up hiring them at our store," Rusyniak told WAMR.

Proceeds at all Goodwill stores are funneled into its workforce development program. In 2023, Goodwill opened its Excel Center, an adult high school where people 21 years old and older can earn their diploma. The center's first graduating class earned their diplomas last year.
