A $3 million grant from The Kahlert Foundation will help create a 29-bed observation unit at Johns Hopkins Howard County Medical Center.

HOWARD COUNTY, MD — Johns Hopkins Howard County Medical Center has received a $3 million grant from The Kahlert Foundation to help fund hospital renovations designed to create a 29-bed observation unit. The foundation will match additional donations to the project up to $600,000.
“Investing in your local hospital means supporting the health and well-being of your community and even your loved ones. At any given time, someone in your family or circle of friends will need our services,” said Shafeeq Ahmed, president of Johns Hopkins Howard County Medical Center. “The Kahlert Foundation has been a wonderful supporter of the hospital in the past, and we are thankful for this support, as it allows us to have a greater impact in the community.”
The new observation unit will allow the hospital to provide state-of-the-art care, treat patients more quickly and effectively, improve patient outcomes and reduce emergency room wait times. The renovation will cost more than $30 million. Howard County has provided $5 million with an additional $10 million budgeted over the next two years.
