Book Drive to Benefit Laundromat Literacy Program

Participate in the Howard County MLK Day of Service by donating gently used books.

Howard County residents can take part in the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday’s Day of Service by donating gently used books to the Howard County Reading Council’s Laundromat Literacy Program.

This initiative places bins of books in local laundromats, putting free books in the hands of children and adults.

To donate, visit Claret Hall, 6020 Daybreak Circle in Clarksville, on Thursday, Jan. 22, between 1 and 4:30 p.m. Schools let out early that day, so children can go along and participate in the Day of Service, too.

Markers, colored paper, stickers, scissors, music, light snacks and information about the late civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr. will be provided at the event. Kids are encouraged to make a page for the book by telling about their favorite part or drawing a picture of their favorite scene.

Children can also make a bookmark to take home.
