Semi Loses Load Across Interstate After Colliding With Other Tractor-Trailers

Three semis were involved in a collision on Interstate 70 Wednesday morning, requiring the roadway to close in both directions.

WEST FRIENDSHIP, MD — A semi hauling roof trusses was involved in a 3-vehicle crash with two other semis Wednesday morning, prompting the closure of Interstate 70 in both directions.

The Maryland State Highway Administration said I-70 was blocked at Maryland Route 32 in West Friendship. Traffic was detoured around the incident via Maryland Routes 97, 144 and 32, reported WBAL. SHA said the crash left roof trusses strewn across the eastbound lanes of the highway. The roadway was shut down for eight hours.

Joshua Donta Wilson, 38, of Grand Prairie, Texas, was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

"The preliminary investigation indicates that all three tractor-trailers were traveling eastbound on I-70 when, for unknown reasons, a Mack truck, driven by Wilson, struck the rear of another tractor-trailer,” investigators said.

The impact caused the second tractor-trailer to slam into the rear of a third truck, a Freightliner that was hauling wooden roof trusses.
