Fatal Shooting Suspect Charged With Murder While In Jail For Separate Incident

A 19-year-old in jail for a robbery has been charged with murder in connection to a December 2023 double shooting where 1 man died.

COLUMBIA, MD — An arrest has been made in a 2023 fatal shooting that happened between two men in an apartment building. A second person was shot but survived.

At approximately 9:25 p.m. Dec. 17, 2023, Howard County police officers were called to the 7600 block of Woodpark Lane and found two victims who had been shot outside in the open stairwell of an apartment building. Both men were taken to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center. Jeremiah Isaiah Darden, 18, of Columbia, was pronounced dead at the hospital. The second victim, a 20-year-old man from Columbia, was treated and released, according to police.

During the investigation, police identified Kennard White, 19, as the suspect. He has been arrested and charged with first-degree murder, attempted murder, assault and numerous weapons violations.

White has been in jail for an unrelated robbery since January 2024 and was served his charges at the Howard County Detention Center, the police department stated.
