Marriotts Ridge High School Senior Earns Gold Medal At International Biology Olympiad
A high school senior earned gold medals at the USA Biolympiad National Finals and the International Biology Olympiad.
HOWARD COUNTY, MD — A Marriotts Ridge High School student earned a gold medal at the USA Biolympiad National Finals held at Marymount University on its Arlington, Virginia, campus. Nearly 12,000 students from 690 schools, 44 states and 25 international schools competed in the nationwide high school contest.
Jason Wang, a senior at Marriotts Ridge High School in Marriottsville, earned the gold medal and then went on to earn a gold medal at the 35th International Biology Olympiad held in Astana, Kazakhstan, competing as part of the USA Biolympiad Team. He also is a three-time returning USABO finalist, an Atlas Fellow, ISEF finalist and six-time AIME qualifier. He also is a CEE Research Science Institute alum. Wang plans to study biology, physics or policy at Harvard in the fall.
During the 10 days of the USABO National Finals, students participated in intensive theoretical and practical tutorials. The high school students studied with leading U.S. biologists in the fields of cellular and molecular biology, plant anatomy and physiology, animal anatomy and physiology, genetics and evolution, ecology, ethology and biosystematics.
