Memorial Scholarship Established For Sergeant Eddison Hermond
Restaurants have coordinated a scholarship fund in memory of Sgt. Eddison Hermond, who died in the Ellicott City flood.

ELLICOTT CITY, MD — Sgt. Eddison Hermond, the man who died in the Ellicott City flood, was known for his service to others. Hermond, 39, of Severn, was trying to help someone in distress when he was swept away by the fast-moving waters on May 27.
He was a member of the Air Force for a decade starting in 1996 and enlisted in the National Guard in 2009. At the time of his death, he was still an active guardsman. In addition to the military, Hermond was part of the restaurant community in Howard County.
He had worked at Victoria Gastro Pub in Columbia since its opening in 2007. After the owners opened Manor Hill Tavern in Ellicott City, he worked as a manager there in 2017.

"Eddison’s smile would light up any room he walked into, and everyone who met him instantly loved him," according to the Restaurant Association of Maryland. "He lived life to its fullest, and everyone that knows him has a story to tell. His life’s mission was to make everyone else’s life better. This selflessness was no more evident than in his final moments on earth. "
Police said he was trying to help a woman when he was overtaken by the floodwater; witnesses saw him go under and not resurface. His body was found across the Baltimore County line.
