Apply To Serve On Howard County's Planning Board

Volunteers are needed to serve on the Howard County Planning Board, specifically in District 4.

HOWARD COUNTY, MD — People interested in the future growth and development of the corridor stretching from the heart of Columbia to Maple Lawn are encouraged to apply for a seat on the county's planning board. They have until May 31 to apply.

“The planning board plays a key role in the future of our county and provides a voice for what our residents want in terms of growth and investment," said Howard County Executive Calvin Ball. “District 4 includes our largest urban center, Downtown Columbia, and is a hub of activity and innovation for an adaptable and resilient future. Our chosen representatives should be thoughtful and inclusive. I encourage your participation.”

The board is comprised of five voting members appointed for a term of three years. Board member responsibilities include providing recommendations to the county executive, County Council and zoning board on matters relating to planning and zoning, including capital programs, capital budget, zoning map amendments, zoning regulation amendments, area and specific plans, and the county’s general plan, a long-term document guiding county land use.
