Rivendell Fire Ruled Accidental

An estimated $300,000 in damages occurred in the Aug. 19 fire, according to HCDFRS.

The two-alarm apartment building fire that displaced at least 14 residents and consumed multiple apartments in Columbia on the night of Aug. 19 was ruled accidental and the investigation is now closed.

"When a fire is deemed accidental in nature we do not investigate the origin or do analysis on the pattern," said Jackie Kotei, a spokesperson for the Howard County Department of Fire and Rescue Services.

No one was injured in the fire at the apartments in the 5200 block of Rivendell Lane, although at least 14 people were displaced, said the department at the time. Displaced residents were aided by the Red Cross.

Kotei said the damages from the fire are estimated at $300,000.
