Suspect Arrested In Fatal Shooting Of His Grandparents In Shared Columbia Home: HCPD

A suspect has been arrested in the fatal shooting of the man's grandparents in the Columbia home they shared, police say.

COLUMBIA, MD — A 33-year-old man has been arrested and charged in the shooting death of his grandparents.

Howard County police were called to the couple's home, located in the 6300 block of Red Haven Road, on Feb. 24 around 3:07 a.m. for a report of shots fired. Officers found a man, later identified as the couple's grandson, with a gun sitting in a vehicle parked outside of the home and took him into custody, the department said.

Detectives believe that the grandson, DiAngelo Smith, 33, was living at the home with his grandparents, Jack Dee Stokes, 78, and Barbara Stokes, 65. The motive behind the fatal shooting remains unclear and the investigation is ongoing. Smith is being held without bail at the Howard County Detention Center.
