Adventures in South County: Edgewater Restaurant

Upon walking into , it immediately felt like the type of place you'd want to "come home" to. 

Familiar sports memorabilia lined the wall, a friendly welcome from the bar staff and you're right back in an atmosphere that would make the cast of Cheers blush.

After sitting down with my in-laws to celebrate the return of my brother-in-law from the Persian Gulf, we all ordered a water or a Samuel Adams Summer Ale. I chose the latter. My relatives strongly recommended the broiled crabcakes and so without hesitation I ordered away, adding a cup of the Southwestern corn and shrimp soup (it was delicious).

I unofficially labeled our sitting area as the "Johnny Unitas" room since more than a dozen plaques, pictures and posters lined the wall—all devoted to the Baltimore Colts great.

But both the service, and the company were more than enough entertainment to keep me from thinking about the Colts sad conclusion in the city I love. 

As the food came out, everything in the 63-year-old restaurant exceeded the expectations—just as I'd expect from a super-local, super-awesome small business. 

The beer was cold, the soup refreshing and most of all, it was a delicious meal that didn't make me weep when I got the check.

Not to mention, the golden brown crabcakes would make "Johnny U"—the man with the golden arm—more than proud.
