Animals Get Blessed in Davidsonville Sunday

Davidsonville United Methodist Church will hold a blessing of the animals Sunday in honor of St. Francis, the patron saint of animals.

This is the season for animal blessings, and if you miss out on getting your four-legged friend blessed at All Hallows Episcopal Church two weeks ago, Davidsonville United Methodist Church is offering another opportunity Sunday.

"All pets/animals are invited to attend with their owners, even those very special 'stuffed' animal/friends," according to the DUMC newsletter.

Sunday's blessing of the animals will take place at 4 p.m. in the Green Cathedral. Pets should be leased if appropriate.

Anglican churches often hold pet blessings on or around St. Francis' feast day, which fell on Oct. 4 this year. St. Francis of Assisi is known as the patron saint of animals and the environment.
