District 7 Schools To Receive 9 New Teachers

The Board of Education's preliminary list reveals that at least nine new teachers are coming to local schools.

When the County Council adopted the fiscal year 2013 budget, it funded for the new school year—including 75 new teachers.

This week, received a preliminary list of local schools that will be receiving some of those new positions. The list, which Walker shared with Patch, shows least nine new teachers and a part-time media specialist are coming to District 7 schools.

The distribution of teachers is determined by regional assistant superintendents, who meet weekly throughout the summer to analyze school population data, said Anne Arundel County Public Schools spokesman Bob Mosier.

Walker said there could be more teachers added to local schools. The councilman told Patch that the board hasn’t concluded the process of distributing personnel, and that this list is just the first round of additions.

“[The schools board] has already assigned some of those [teaching positions],” Walker said. “It’s not all of them, but they gave me a list of schools getting additional teachers.”
