Arrest Made in Assault of 6-year-old Lothian Girl
Melvin Dejuan Davis Jr., 18, of Lothian, is facing assault and attempted robbery charges in connection with the incident.

Anne Arundel County police arrested a Lothian man Saturday in connection with last week's assault of a 6-year-old girl and her mother during an attempted robbery in the 1200 block of Whittington Drive.
Police said that on Thursday, a man attempted to steal the purse of a 31-year-old woman who was walking on Whittington Drive with her 6-year-old daughter. The suspect allegedly knocked the adult victim to the ground and began assaulting her and trying to take her purse, according to police. When the victim's daughter tried to intervene, the suspect struck her in the chest.
There were numerous witnesses to Thursday's assault that provided police with details that helped them develop a suspect in the assault. Based on the information provided by the witnesses, detectives obtained a warrant for Melvin Dejuan Davis Jr., 18, and arrested him on Saturday.
Davis is charged with two counts of assault and one count of attempted robbery. He was released on bond Sunday.
