BGE Makes Aggressive Push to Restore Power Throughout Region

Baltimore Gas and Electric (BGE) has restored power to approximately 92 percent of its customers, but more than 6,000 Anne Arundel County residents are still without electricity, according to a BGE release and its website.

With a force of about 4,200, field and support workers are expected to continue working throughout the weekend, according to the release.

Over the last 48 hours, many local residents saw their electricity turned on throughout the Edgewater and Davidsonville communities.

Linda McCarthy, a Davidsonville resident, said on Patch’s Facebook page that power was restored at her home on Route 424, but that her water pump wasn’t working as of Wednesday afternoon.

As more homes got electricity, more and more residents began commenting on Facebook and Twitter announcing their return to modern civilization.

For some, the news came quickly after immediately spotting BGE crews. Zzzwentowrth tweeted, “Power trucks from Texas and South River Park,” and then less than three hours later tweeted, “The power is on [at] South River Park!!!”

BGE reported that of its 4,200 work force, about 1,300 were out-of-state contractors.

Raynews21 said via Twitter that he saw some of those out-of-state trucks enjoying some local treats.

“I just saw four power trucks from Oklahoma at the snowball stand on 214 in Edgewater. Oklahoma!” he said on Twitter.

Life has almost returned to normal in the region, but there still may be some battling throughout the weekend without electricity. BGE's website reported that crews are still working in Edgewater and Davidsonville as of Thursday afternoon.
