DC 101 Chili Cook-Off Features Kahve's Cupcake Wizard

Rachael Powers created the official cupcake of the annual DC 101 Chili Cook-Off.

The woman behind 's gourmet cupcakes, Rachael Powers, spent her weekend showing off her mini-cakes at the annual DC 101 Chili Cook-Off in Washington, DC. 

Specifically focused on creating the "official cupcake of the Chili Cook-Off," Powers concocted around 2,000 treats including a "spicy chocolate" cupcake with chili pepper, marshmallow filling, fudgy vanilla butter cream, all sprinkled with Pop Rocks. 

"I felt really lucky. It was just really exciting and a good experience," Powers said.

The 21-year-old said she approached the staff of DC 101 and asked to create an official cupcake for the event. After impressing the staff, she got the green light to begin making the 2,000 cupcakes. 

The event, comprised of music and food, had 20 percent of Powers' proceeds go to the National Kidney Foundation. About 35,000 people attended the cook-off on Saturday and, for some, they got their first taste of Edgewater's new cupcake wizard.

"We were introduced to 35,000 new people who had never seen our stuff before. Even during the concert we had a couple [future] brides and grooms that took our cards," Powers said. 

Owner of , Powers said she hopes the opportunity advances her business' recognition.
