Duck Race Raises Funds for SRYA Scoreboard

South River Youth Athletics is holding a fundraiser at the Chesapeake Beach Water Park in Calvert County.

South River Youth Athletics (SRYA) is combing water slides, lazy rivers and rubber duck racing to raise funds for a new scoreboard.

SYRA is partnering with the Chesapeake Beach Water Park in Calvert County to raise money for a new scoreboard at Edgewater Park.

Fundraising coordinator Melissa Stevens said they are hoping to raise $10,000 to cover the cost of the new scoreboard. On August 9, SRYA supporters can head to the Chesapeake Beach Water Park from 5 to 8 p.m. for a swimming and duck race party.

From 5 to 7 p.m. supporters can enjoy the water park's water slides and lazy river. Then, beginning at 7 p.m., a duck race will take place in the lazy river. The numbered ducks will be placed in the river and the first duck to cross the finish line will win $200. Stevens said you do not need to be present to win the race.

Those wishing to attend can purchase admission to the park and one duck for $15—more ducks can be purchased for an additional cost.
