PHOTOS: Volunteers Clean Headwaters to Honor MLK

Here's a photo gallery from Monday's cleanup effort involving members of the South River Foundation.

In 1994, President Bill Clinton signed a piece of legislation transforming Martin Luther King Jr. Day into a day of citizen action and volunteering.

To honor King and his relentless pursuit of justice and serving others, the South River Federation (SRF) proudly worked Monday to clean up the headwaters of Broad Creek along Harry S. Truman Parkway in Annapolis.

“Twenty volunteers came together on a chilly but beautiful winter day,” said SRF volunteer coordinator Jennifer Carr. “Volunteers spent two hours picking up whatever trash they could find along the length of the parkway from Riva Road to South Haven Road.”

More than 30 full bags of trash were collected along with recyclables. The volunteers even found four tires and a baby stroller, Carr said.

“We send a big ‘thank you’ out to all the volunteers that made the day a success along with Starbucks of Edgewater for donating the coffee,” she said.
