Happy Father's Day from Patch

A brief story of why my Dad is the best in the world.

My "old man" never had what I had—a father.

After losing his mom as a young boy, my Dad's biological father separated he and his two brothers into different foster homes—not to see each other for decades. My dad made plenty of bad decisions throughout those adolescent years, but somehow, he came out of it in one piece.

As he grew into an adult, he spent 16 years in the U.S. Air Force, married his best friend's sister (I love you Mom!) and ended up raising three pretty good kids (that's including me). He's even celebrating his 30-year wedding anniversary in August (way to go guys)!

But on a day like Father's Day, I look back at my Dad and there's still just one thing that keeps coming back to make me amazed, appreciative and truly thankful.

The most amazing part about my Dad isn't that he makes everyone laugh or that he's taught me about commitment and responsibility. It's that, despite not having one himself, he became a truly amazing father.

As an adult, I look back at how he raised me and marvel at his discernment when it came to discipline, fun times, sad times and including me in his life. He's a life-long educator, so having the summers off helped a lot, but even while dealing with the most serious of professional issues, I never felt second to anything.

I know my two sisters will agree with me when I say, I definitely have the best Dad in the world. I love you Pops!!
