LilyRose Edgewater Bakery Closes its Doors

Lovers of Edgewater bakery LilyRose’s lavender cupcakes, homemade marshmallows and fresh macaroons will have to find another way to satisfy their sweet tooth because as of Monday, the shop is officially closed for business.

On July 14, the store announced on its Facebook Page that it had closed temporarily and would be reopening on Sept. 1. This weekend, Patch readers reported seeing a moving van in front of the shop—formerly located at 8 Mayo Road—and now the store reportedly stands empty.

LilyRose made its closing official on its Facebook Page Monday morning, with a promise of “exciting” news to come:

LilyRose announces the closing of the Edgewater, MD, location of LilyRose Cakes, Cupcakes & Confections. Thank you for your friendship and support. Please continue to follow LilyRose on Facebook - there will be a few exciting announcements over the coming months. LILYROSE - ADDING A LITTLE JOY TO YOUR DAY!

More than 20 followers commented on the update, saddened by the closing.

The shop, which opened in Edgewater last fall, is closing after less than a year in business. LilyRose enjoyed some successes in its short lifespan, including a nod from Chesapeake Magazine for Best Cupcakes. The shop was also hired to bake 400 cupcakes for the Ambassador’s Inaugural Ball in January.

One of the shops owners, Carmen Adams, wrote in an email that the business is closing so it can redefine its business model. 

"It has been a pleasure serving the Edgewater-Davidsonville community. The warmth and support from the community were phenomenal!" Adams wrote.

But—as the saying goes—when one door closes, another opens. Honey Hive opened in Edgewater in June selling a variety of baked goods and sweet treats, so residents can still satisfy their sweet tooth locally.
