Monkeying Around at Mayo Elementary
A new playground offers kids more fun ways to exercise at recess.
The kindergartners at Mayo Elementary are swinging with joy this week thanks to the new monkey bars and balance beams purchased by the school PTO.
The new equipment was made available for play to students for the first time Wednesday.
"We raised the money last year through the PTO and we were able to raise enough to purchase two balance beams and the monkey bars," said Mayo Elementary PTO President Andrea McClenahan.
Students lined up to give the monkey bars a swing. The kindergarten teachers were no less delighted.
"I really have a lot of gratitude for the parents and all they have done," said Donna Kachure, a kindergarten teacher at Mayo Elementary.
Principal Kirk Greubel was also pleased to see the structure installed.
"As we have a growing student population, this was a need that we saw," Greubel said.
There are 50 kindergarten students enrolled at Mayo Elementary this year. The school houses 342 students total in grades K through 5.
