This is the sixth in a series of solo exhibits featuring Muddy Creek Artists Guild members. Previous exhibits showcased painter Ruth Ostrander and mixed media artist Stephanie Nadolski. There is no end in sight as the owner and Muddy Creek Artists Guild patron Elizabeth Ramirez aspires to exhibit every member of the Southern Anne Arundel County art guild.

Through her photography, Kangas strives to capture the beauty in the regular images of each day, each month and each year by documenting the sunrise, the waxing and waning of the moon, and the four seasons. A creature of habit, she loves to visit the same sites over and over again, catching the mood and the light of the ever-changing days.

Kangas’s photography is heavily influenced by her training as a biologist, her affinity for national parks and natural areas, and her life-long love of the outdoors. Kangas considers herself to be an “old-fashioned” digital photographer.  She relies on her camera and its settings, rather than the computer, to accurately reproduce what she sees through her viewfinder.

“One of the things that I enjoy most about showing my photography is talking to people about my images. It is fun to see the look of recognition on people’s faces when they see a familiar scene from our local landscape.”

Kangas joined the Muddy Creek Artists Guild in 2010. This is her first solo show.
