New Learning Center Opens in Edgewater

The Joy Kids Learning Center on Mayo Road is the newest day care option for Edgewater and Davidsonville residents.

Edgewater received its newest child day care option Monday morning as the Joy Kids Learning Center (JKLC) celebrated its grand opening with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Mayo Road.

Located at 35 Mayo Rd., the center serves children from 2 to 5 years old with an enhanced educational program.

According to a release, the center will care for children from 6:45 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday, offering “an educational program that utilizes developmentally appropriate practices that enhance social, emotional, physical and intellectual development of each child.”

Along with members of the Southern Anne Arundel Chamber of Commerce, County Councilman Jerry Walker (R-7th District) attended the ribbon-cutting ceremony and surveyed the new complex.

“It’s great to see a new business in the community, as well as a resource for our working families,” Walker told Patch after he left the grand opening.

Kenneth Graham, JKLC business director, said in a release that the center will utilize something known as the High Reach Learning curriculum. The program helps teachers “focus on learning approaches that can be developed during any type of experience or interaction,” according to the High Reach website.

In addition to the educational strategy, the learning center will include spiritual development through daily activities, supplemented with Christian themes, according to the release.
